An enthusiastic group of St. Petersburg College students receiving First Generation Scholarships gathered recently at the College's Midtown Campus to thank Duke Energy for their support. This year, Duke provided $30,000 to underwrite scholarships for students attending Midtown and Downtown campuses who are the first in their families to pursue a college credential. Attending from Duke were Alex Glenn, President of Duke Florida; Gregory Wright, Community Affairs Manager; Jeff Baker, Government & Community Relations; and Peveeta Persaud, Corporate Communications Manager. Mr. Glenn offered students inspirational guidance on the importance of integrity, perseverance and knowledge. Those remarks moved SPC Engineering student Kelvin Brooks to share his personal thanks and describe how Duke Energy has impacted his life. Provost Dr. Kevin Gordon and Assoc. Provost Tyrone Clinton also thanked Duke for their involvement.
The St. Petersburg College Foundation is deeply grateful for Duke's support!
Rays Foundation Goes to Bat for First Gen Students
The Rays Foundation is root-root-rooting for First Generation students through its partnership with the SPC Foundation. The initiative provides financial support to students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend college and earn degrees. For many students, this scholarship program is also their best hope of realizing unmet potential, gaining self-sufficiency and creating a model of success that will have implications for years to come.
The Rays Baseball Foundation presented Frances Neu, VP of Institutional Advancement a $10,000 check to support the program. To date, the Rays Baseball Foundation has awarded over $200,000 to local charity organizations in support of youth and education focused programs offered by community-based nonprofit organizations. This is the second year they have partnered with the St. Petersburg College Foundation.
