Have you always wanted to teach, love challenges and seek a fulfilling new career? SPC's state-approved Educator Preparation Institute is a sequential, three-semester program leading to Florida Professional Certification. The Institute is primarily for students with a non-education bachelor's degree or higher who want to become Florida certified teachers.
The EPI begins during the Summer session only. The program runs consecutively three terms: Summer, Fall, and Spring.
After completing the coursework for this degree including the school-based hours and internship, students will be guided through the steps to apply for your Florida Professional Certificate.
All EPI classes require evening and online coursework; it is not an online-only program. Teacher candidates meet once or twice a week in the evenings (6-9 p.m.) and then complete online modules over the next few weeks. EPI classes are offered at the Clearwater Campus.
Practical teaching is also an integral part of the EPI. Teacher candidates will complete a 60-hour practicum during the second term of the EPI. The practicum requires at least one full day or two half days each week (7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) over the course of the term. During a teacher candidate's final semester, a full-day, 10-week internship is required. SPC works with Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsborough counties to secure practicum and internship assignments for all College of Education students.
