    Our academy prepares you to become a correctional officer. You can serve in local sheriffs' departments, Florida Department of Corrections facilities and private correctional companies.

  • Officer requirements

    How to become a Certified Officer in the state of Florida in:

  • PSAV to AS to BAS
  • FDLE approved

    The Corrections Academy provides the training you need to pass the Florida Department of Law Enforcement State Certification Examination. Our academy is held at our FDLE approved training center and uses the curriculum of the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC).

  • How to apply to the Corrections Academy

    1. Meet the state-mandated entry requirements
    2. Successfully pass the PERT Test in Reading (106-150) and Writing (103-150) 
    3. Complete a Background Check
      Complete the Police Applicant Screening Service (PASS) background check for $250.
    4. Mail us your PASS Verification Letter
      After completing the PASS process you will receive a PASS completion letter. Fax or mail a copy of the letter to the attention of Diana Ospina:

    5. Receive your Registration Packet
      If accepted, you will receive a registration packet about one month prior to the start date of the academy. The packet includes further information about uniforms, which cost approximately $275.
  • These Post Secondary Adult Vocational courses count toward the corrections sub-plan of our A.S. degree in Criminal Justice Technology. Our A.S. transfers to our bachelor's degree in Public Safety Administration.
  • Corrections Academy costs

    In-state residents: $3,200
    Out-of-state residents: $6,396.92

    Tuition is subject to change. In-state tuition rates only apply to those who can prove Florida residency for at least 12 consecutive months. Books and uniforms cost about $300.
