  • With the fifth year of funding from the Florida Legislature, St. Petersburg College and the MLK Advisory Committee are looking to make the 2017 MLK Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, the most memorable community service event to date. Please help us and join hundreds of local citizens who choose to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by serving the community. Let's make MLK Day a day on, not just a day off!

2017 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Projects Announced

The MLK Day of Service Advisory Board in collaboration with St. Petersburg College has awarded funds to local organizations to host service projects scheduled in connection with the Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday on Jan. 16, 2017. These projects will involve more than 70 nonprofits, organizations and public agencies selected as part of the MLK Day of Service Advisory Board’s annual effort to transform the holiday into “A Day On, Not a Day Off.”

    How do I volunteer?

Click on the 2017 Day of Service Projects button (on the right side of this page) to review descriptions of the service projects taking place this year. Then call your selected project’s contact person directly to sign up and volunteer.

    Signature Project

The Advisory Board has selected the Advantage Village Academy - MLK Family Fun Day as a 2017 MLK Day of Service Signature Project. We invite you to join in on this event full of entertainment, games and informational booths for the entire family. The Family Fun Day is from 2:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Tropicana Field.

Volunteers are being recruiting to assist in every part of the day's activities, including (but not limited to): set up, registration, serving food, running games and activities, and most importantly having fun! For more information on the MLK Family Fun Day visit www.mlkdreambig.com/events and click on Volunteer Opportunities for ways to assist.

    Youth Ambassadors

In the spirit of honoring Dr. King’s dedication to service, the Advisory Board and staff of the 2017 MLK Day of Service project is seeking high school students to serve as Youth Ambassadors for the Day of Service, "A Day On, Not a Day Off" on January 16, 2017. Youth Ambassadors will be volunteering their time working with various community service projects during the 2017 MLK Day of Service project.

Students serving as ambassadors will benefit especially if volunteer hours are required as a part of the high school curriculum, college application, or scholarships. In addition to the wonderful feeling of giving back to the community, Youth Ambassadors continue to perpetuate Dr. King’s legacy.

To sign up to be a Youth Ambassador or for more information call the MLK Day of Service Student Ambassador Coordinator, JerJuan Green at 727-327-0999. Learn more about Youth Ambassadors.
