Commencement Ceremony Instructions

  • THERE WILL NOT BE A SUMMER COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY.

    Students who graduate in summer, may attend fall 2019 commencement ceremony. Details will be available in September 2019

  • Special Needs
    Graduates with special needs should contact SPC's Accessibility Services at 727-341-3398 to make arrangements at least one week prior to the ceremony.

    Guests
    Guest seating in the main auditorium is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Because of limited space, overflow seating will be available in the adjoining room where guests can watch via live telecast.

    Cap and Gown
    Purchase your cap and gown from the Barnes & Noble campus bookstores.

    Honor Cords
    Cords for Associate and Bachelor’s degree candidates are available for pick up from 8- 8:45 a.m. Look for the 'Honors Cords' sign as you enter Gate 6.

    Eligibility for honors is based on your prior term cumulative GPA found on your unofficial transcript in MySPC.

    Veterans Cords
    Cords for Veterans are available for pick up from 8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. Look for the ‘Veterans Cords’ sign as you enter Gate 6.

    Cords and sashes designating membership in student organizations should be picked up in advance. Contact your organization for specific instructions on obtaining this regalia.

    Special Accommodations 

    • SPC Accessibility Services will be at Gate 4 for graduating students in need of mobility assistance. You should contact your Accessibility Coordinator the day of Commencement and arrive an hour prior to the standard student arrival time to conduct a walk through with Accessibility Services staff, select accessible seating and have a professional graduation photo taken in advance.
      Candidates and guests with special needs may opt to use the drop-off area in front of Gate 4, directly across from Lot 1. Lots 1 and 7 offer disabled parking just outside the gates. Please allow extra time for traffic in this area.
      Accessible seating is available for friends and families attending commencement who have difficulty climbing stairs or walking distances. Arrive early to ensure they find their desired location. Tropicana staff will be available to direct them to the seating area.


    Decorum and Protocol
    The commencement ceremony is a formal event. Decorum and courtesy are very important for candidates and guests. Please use good judgement and celebrate your accomplishment in a way not to disrupt others.

    • Please plan for a two (2) hour program.
    • All candidates and their guests are expected to remain until the entire ceremony is over.
    • Turn off cell phones for the ceremony.


    Regalia/Dress (cap, gown, tassel)
    The day of the ceremony arrive dressed in your cap and gown. The suggested attire for all candidates is business/casual attire. Ladies wear comfortable shoes as the processional is long. Your personal belongings (handbags, keys, etc.) should be secured with a friend or family member.

    Photographs
    A professional photographer from GradImages will be on stage to take your picture as you greet the president. To see proofs and order copies of professional photos taken, log in with your last name and the year of the ceremony at GradImages.

    Diplomas
     

    • You will receive a diploma cover at the ceremony; however, you will not receive your diploma
    • After all graduation requirements are verified and the degree conferred, expect to receive your diploma by the end of June 2019

    If you did not register for the commencement ceremony, the name on your diploma will be the name in your MySPC student account. Make sure your address is updated and accurate since that is the address your diploma will be sent. Honors designation on your diploma will be based on your final cumulative GPA.

    A $15 diploma fee for a duplicate or replacement is required. Contact graduationquestions@spcollege.edu if you have any questions.
