Tips for applying for financial aid

  • Apply early. The FAFSA is available Jan. 1 each year. Applications submitted before May 1 are given first priority consideration for many types of aid.
  • Submit a FAFSA each year.
  • Read all instructions carefully.
  • Make sure to use your correct Social Security number and your name as it appears on your Social Security card when submitting the FAFSA.
  • Make copies of all tax returns and your application. Be sure to submit information exactly as reported on your federal income tax returns and be careful to report taxes paid instead of taxes withheld.
  • List your name and Student ID number on all documents submitted.
  • Respond promptly to all information requests from our office and the federal processor.
  • Keep your address and e-mail current with St. Petersburg College (login to MySPC and choose My Personal Info).
  • After you receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the federal processor, communicate any questions, concerns or changes in your financial status to a financial assistance staff member.
  • Follow up on your financial aid. Login to MySPC to check your financial aid status and To Do list for any documents you may need to submit.
